TAAN organizes interaction on Role of Honorary Consuls in Tourism
Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) recently organized an interaction program on ‘Role of Honorary Consuls in Tourism’ in Kathmandu.
Welcoming the consuls and the office representatives of various consul offices, Krishna Man Shrestha, coordinator of International Relation Department – TAAN, highlighted on the role of honorary consuls in the promotion and publicity of Nepal and its tourism products in the international arena. He also stressed the need for joint efforts of TAAN and Honorary Consular Corps Nepal (HCC-N) to increase the number of tourists visiting Nepal in future.
Speaking at the function, Rajendra Kumar Khetan, Dean of HCC-N and Honorary Consul for Portugal, thanked TAAN for taking the initiative for promotion of tourism in Nepal. “Since Honorary consuls are the distinguished entrepreneurs, HCC-N can jointly make a strategic plan for bilateral and multilateral relations for cultural exchange and tourism promotion through media, schools, and university of respective countries”, he said.
Similarly, Ang Tshering Sherpa, the Honorary Consul for Belgium and a noted tourism entrepreneur, highlighted the trend of Belgian tourists in Nepal. “When the situation of Nepal is chaotic and travel advisories become negative, we should lobby with the governments we represent to make them positive,” he added.
Likewise, Sriram Lamichhane, Honorary consul for Luxembourg, Dinesh Shrestha, Honorary Consul for Malta and Basanta Raj Mishra, honorary consul for Chile also highlighted on the roles of consul for the multilateral cooperation for Nepal’s tourism development and promotion.
Concluding the interaction, Chandra Rijal, president of TAAN, highlighted the role played by TAAN for the promotion of Nepal’s tourism and disseminating positive messages all over the world. He urged all stakeholders to act positively for better productivity and holistic economic development.
