Festival from September 8
With the objective of promoting Dolpa district as a fascinating
tourist destination in Mid-Western Nepal, Dolpa Chamber of Commerce and Industries
(DCCI) is organising a five-day long Dolpa Festival 2065 from September 8 to
12 in district headquarters Dunai.
The festival will showcase cultural procession, exhibition of local products,
exhibition of local cuisines, volleyball competition, exhibition of native sports
and cultural performances by popular artistes. Likewise, trekking to different
parts of the district, rafting in Bhairavi River, Tripura Marathon, photo and
book exhibition on Dolpa, and documentary show are the other attractions of
the festival. More than 25 stalls will showcase handicraft items, rare herbs
and other local products of the district.
Mr. Laliman Budha, coordinator of the festival, said that the festival aimed
to promote tourism richness of the district. 'Earlier editions of the festival
were focused on the exploration of tourism products. Now is the time for promotion
of explored products,' Mr. Budha added. He also informed that people of Dolpa
were taking tourism as an alternative profession after herb farming.
Dolpa came to limelight after the success of movie 'Caravan' that portrayed
fascinating landscapes of the district. Phoksundo Lake, Shey Monastery and Shey
Phoksundo National Park are the major tourist attractions of the district. Likewise,
Bon religion, which is on the verge of extinction, is also practiced in Dolpa.
Dolpa is accessible only through air service. Yeti Airlines is adding extra
flights to Dolpa from Nepalgunj during the festival.
