Bhatt, Rai win the third edition of TAAN International Langtang Marathon

Khagendra Bhatt of Tribhuvan Army Club and Nirkala Kulung Rai — have won the men’s and women’s category, respectively, in 3rd TAAN International Langtang Marathon held in Langtang Region of Rasuwa district on May 19. This year the event was held with the slogan of “Adventure Sport for Sustainable Tourism.”

The high altitude marathon was inaugurated by the chief guest Honb’l Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari and was held under the chairmanship of Nava Raj Dahal, president of Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN).

Likewise, the closing ceremony was held under the chairmanship of the First Vice-  President of TAAN Jeeban Thapa Magar while the Chief guest was Mohan

Acharya, Member of House of Representative.Bhatt completed the 42.195 kilometers marathon in 3 hours 49 minutes and 27 seconds while Rai completed the trail in 4 hours 57 minutes and 13 seconds.

Similarly, Bharat Khatri from Nepal Army (4 hours 6 minutes and 18 seconds) and Subas Karki (4 hours 7 minutes and 58 seconds) secured second and third position respectively in men’s category. Likewise, Purna Maya Rai from Solukhumbu (5 hours 26 minutes and 19 seconds) and Sarita Basi from Nepal Army (5 hours 52 minutes and 20 seconds) secured second and third position respectively in women’s category.

Mohan Acharya, handed over cash prize, medal and certificates to the winners in both men’s and women’s category.
The winners in both the categories took home cash prize of Rs 105,000, the first runner-ups and second runner-ups of both the categories received Rs 78,750 and Rs 52,500, respectively.

Altogether 100 participants – 95 Nepali and 5 foreigners– participated in the event that began at Kyanjin Gompa and passed through Ghoda Tabela, Lama Hotel, Rimche, Sherpa Gaon and Khangjim before concluding at Syafrubesi.

According to the organizers, the event was organized to disseminate the message of Nepal being one of the prime international destination for sports and sporting events. The marathon has helped to promote Nepal with Langtang in particular as one of the major destinations for adventure tourism among both international and national tourists through mass media.
