With the number of aerial and adventure activities, the beautiful lake city of Pokhara can also be named as an adventure capital of Nepal. Here are some of the aerial activities to try out whilst in the city.
Paragliding is an amazing aerial activity to indulge. Pokhara has been described as one of the best paragliding destinations in the world by many as gliders get incredible views of the Annapurna mountain range behind them while under and ahead is the beautiful Fewa Lake. Paragliding began in Nepal in the early 2000s. Many paragliding companies in Nepal offer tandem and solo flights, while some also offer paragliding course. Gliders take off from the Sarangkot hill and land on the banks of Fewa Lake. Paragliding can be done in Pokhara throughout the year, weather permitting. However, September until April is considered the best time. Stable thermals, convenient take-off and landing zones, incredible mountain views, and the safety of a large lake makes paragliding in Pokhara a memorable experience. You don’t have to be a trained pilot to enjoy paragliding. Experienced pilots fly with you. They also take photographs and video footage of your adventure through action camera.
The ultra light flight is probably the best way to get bird’s eye view of Pokhara and the surrounding mountains. The ultra light flight covers the city of Pokhara, Fewa Lake, Sarangkot hill and the snow-capped mountains of the Annapurna range. A typical package allows you the opportunity to view mountain peaks of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Longer trips, however, take you closer to the mountains. If you cannot get into the mountains, ultra light flight is the best way to see the mountains up close. Ultra lights are a two-seated aircraft with powered engine designed to carry two people – a pilot and a passenger. Ultra light aircraft take off from Pokhara airport and can be done from September till June.

Paramotoring is yet another aerial activity in Pokhara. Paramotor is a form of ultralight aircraft where the pilot wears a motor — a paramotor — on their back which provides enough thrust to take off using a paraglider. This ‘personal aircraft’ requires minimal training by aviation standards. Paramotoring offers you the opportunity to experience beauty of Pokhara in a whole new way. You can just soar above the Pokhara sky, or follow the local rivers along the valley to get closer to the mountains.
Heli sightseeing, also defined as air trek by some, is one of the best ways to enjoy the natural beauty of Pokhara. Helicopter flights, that take off from the Pokhara airport, offers you breathtaking views of mountain ranges, rivers, Fewa Lake, World Peace Stupa, beautiful villages among others. You have different options to choose from – having breakfast at the Annapurna Base Camp to a short stopover at the beautiful Gurung villages, or hovering over rhododendron forests in full bloom, among others. Or you can simply enjoy the Pokhara city sightseeing with your chopper circling the Fewa Lake, Sarangkot Hill and the World Peace Stupa, among others.
